Hiding from Halloween with the Remarkables Tuesday 31 October 2017

You don’t have to stay at home and give out sweets from your front doorstep on Halloween this Tuesday. There are far more entertaining things to like heading down to Corellis for a rejuvenating wine, a tasty meal, and a dose of good old Remarkables-style entertainment.

Relax and let Neil Findlay, Bryan Christianson, Pete Parnham and Garry Trotman rock up their supposedly acoustic instruments and their venerable vocal chords on Americana, Texas swing, blues, folk, country and whatever gets in the way.

Folk In the Park – February 2017

Once again Roger and Hilary from the Devonport Folk Music Club asked us to play at their annual Folk In The Park concert at Devonport’s Windsor Reserve. The weather was looking a bit dodgy but the rain held off and it was a most pleasant afternoon listening to the other artists then having a go ourselves.

First – A couple of photos from Hilary (click thumbnail for high-res version)

Wellington Folk Festival – October 2016

We had a neat time at the 2016 Wellington Folk Festival. We arrived Friday afternoon to the most miserable weather that Wellington can provide but by Saturday morning the skies were clear and remained that way for the remainder of the weekend. Once again a wonderful opportunity to meet up with friends from the Southern parts of our country.

Te Pou Theatre – July 2015

The Te Pou Theatre in New Lynn is a wonderful little theatre, cunningly concealed in a big old semi-industrial building on Portage Rd. We shared the bill with 3 other acts, Bonnie Strides, Fables and Glory Days. It was really good to see young people making music in the style(s) we love – lots of banjo picking, fiddle and acoustic guitar. Thanks Finn, it was a great gig. And Adam got some good pics.

Short Tour – May 2015

Home again after 4 days on the road.

Special thanks to John Keating (The Whanganui Musicians Club), The Tamara Riverside Lodge (great motel for touring musicians in Whanganui), Andrew Bicknell (The Wellington Bluegrass Society), Frank Sillay, Sheryl Bond (Tauranga Acoustic Music Club) and Marion Arts.

Wonderful audiences at all the venues and terrific hospitality at all the places we stayed.

Album Launch – “Swinging On The Gate”

It went really well. We were able to sell a whole heap of albums, had the place full to standing room only and it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying our music.

Being musicians and not business people we forgot a few essentials – fortunately our good friends Chris Priestly, Roger Giles and Crissi Blair stepped up to run the door and handle the CD sales 🙂

Many thanks to all of those who came, especially those who made the trip up from Hamilton and Tauranga.

Launch gig at The Thirsty Dog (on Karangahape Rd) 8:00PM Sat 10 January, 2015.

The  weekend of 24-26 January 2015, Auckland Anniversary weekend, sees the annual gathering of thousands of folkies at the Kumeu Showgrounds for New Zealand’s biggest folk music festival. See Auckland Folk Festival for details. This year sees The Remarkables booked as a headline act and it would be really great to see some of you there.

Here we are with Roger Giles in the green room just before our afternoon concert on Sunday 25 Jan

Oparau Acoustic Festival (OAF)

We’ll be on stage, Saturday 8 November 2014 at the annual Oparau Acoustic Festival. The festival is run by our old friend and sometime picking buddy *Lott* at the Oparau Domain, near Kawhia in the Waikato. Its a fun filled weekend – good concerts, lots of jamming, big bonfire and great food.
